Paul Ryan: Sarah Palin 2.0
So, most political commentators cringe at the thought of making predictions, but I seriously think that Mitt Romney dealt a huge blow to his campaign by selecting Paul Ryan as his running mate. It's especially odd that he would pick someone with a definitive record from being in Congress since 1999 and a budget plan that Obama's team had already dubbed the Romney-Ryan budget. Romney has until this point been seen as a flip-flopper that refused to take a hard stand on any issue. One thing for sure, is that this has energizes Republicans and Democrats alike. I have to wonder if the same people that pushed Palin on McCain created this ticket.

Will Obama Use DNC Convention Speech to Come Out in Support of Gay Marriage?
After many years of advocating strong civil unions, but not full marriage, for same-sex couples, President Obama has admitted that his views on gay marriage are evolving. While it may seem risky to make such a declaration before the election, this year's Democratic National Convention may be the best time to do so.
There is already a growing movement among Democrats to add support for marriage equality to the official party platform during the convention. Nancy Pelosi has already expressed her support for this movement. Surely, it wouldn't be wise for the President to oppose his own party's platform for governing the country.
More importantly, The President needs to draw contrasts between himself and Mitt Romney. Declaring support for gay marriage in North Carlolina, where the fallout from amendment one will still be fresh on people's minds, presents a great opportunity to do so, regardless of the outcome. If the amendment passes, democrats and gays in the state will be demoralized. Support from the president would go a long way to encourage them to get of the couch and continue fighting. If the amendment fails at the ballot box, which would be the first time voters reject this type of amendment, the gay rights movement will be on such a high that he may have no choice but to jump on the bandwangon.

Republicans scared of protracted nomination
Caught this article on yahoo about GOP governors fearing that the drawn out nomination will hurt their party's chances in November. I think it's ridiculous that they are afraid of people learning more abut their party and platform. Shouldn't the race be more abut what is good for the country, instead of just defeating Obama?

Like Minds
So, right after my last post, I see this article at weeklypost.com that discusses one of Mitt Romney's endorsements jumping ship to Rick Santorum. The best part is when Mike Dewine says “It’s abundantly clear that Governor Romney’s campaign is no better than it was four years ago.” Check it out
Mitt Romney
I simply don't understand why many republicans think Mitt Romney has the best chance to beat Obama in November. Forgetting that there are several things working in Obama's favor at this time, there is nearly no excitment around Mitt's campaign. I get the feeling he has already peaked and that was in 2008.

Big week for marriage equality
Right on the heels of gay marriage passing in Washington state, today marriage equality has passed the Maryland state house and heads to the Senate. The bill was passed with the support and leadership of several LGBT legislators. Marriage equality also passed both houses of the New Jersey legislature, but unfortunately was vetoed by Republican Governor Chris Christie. Two big steps forward and one back.

Santorum
So what about Rick Santorum cleaning house on Tuesday night. I think it's great, as he is the least likely to get elected amongst those left. Definitely getting interesting on the republican side, but for all the wrong reasons. Excitment and turnout hasn't been that good in several of the contests so far, which can only mean good things for democrats.
Amendment One
So one thing you'll probably hear a lot about on this blog for the next few months is the proposed amendment to the NC constitution. I hope to go into more detail about amendment one soon, but for now, just want to congratulate the Greensboro City Council for passing a resolution against amendment one 8-1. Great job!
Getting Started
So I've been thinking about doing this for a while and finally decided to jump in. This blog is about all things political. I'll discuss things in the mainstream media and will try to mix it up with other topics that are less talked about. I definitely consider myself a democrat, but I think I'm more moderate than most. I certainly hope that is reflected by this blog as time goes on. I love discussion and love to hear people's opinions even when they disagree with me. The only thing I dont tolerate is personal attacks.
